A Medical expert has warned those who engage in oral sex of the risk of getting sexually transmitted infections (STI).

The expert also told PUNCH Healthwise that the use of saliva as sexual lubricant during sexual intercourse increases the risk of the human immunodeficiency virus, hepatitis, and herpes infection.

Infections like candidiasis, chlamydia, syphilis, and gonorrhoea can also be transmitted through the practice, the report noted.

To prevent the STI’s, the medical expert called for pre-intimacy to get lubricated naturally, or get a lubricant that is medically certified before sexual intercourse is initiated.

According to Dr. Akinkoye Akinpelu, a General Practitioner in Minna, Niger State, HIV can be contracted from an infected man with bleeding gum and once the saliva with traces of blood is used to lubricate, the woman is infected.

“You know that HIV is a disease transmitted through blood contact. A man or woman might have a bleeding gum and probably any of the partners already has a cut due to friction during intercourse. By the time they lubricate with the saliva, the bacteria or virus present gets transmitted.

The Medical Director of Top Medical Centre, noted that a slight bruise in a woman’s private part could allow an infection into her body.
