Breaking: Court Of Appeal Dismisses Certificate Forgery Suit Against Obaseki
The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has dismissed the case brought against Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State over his University of Ibadan certificate. The court in a unanimous judgment dismissed the appeal against the lower court judgment that earlier dismissed the suit challenging his eligibility based on the certificate issue.
The All Progressives Congress, APC and one of its chieftains, Mr Williams Edobor had dragged Obaseki to court for allegedly forging the University of Ibadan degree certificate he submitted to INEC to aid his qualification for the September 19, 2020 governorship election in Edo.
GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that Obaseki was declared winner of the election over Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu who was the APC candidate in the election.
The lower court had on January 9, 2021 dismissed the certificate forgery case against Obaseki prompting the plaintiffs to appeal to the higher court.
The Court of Appeal in a unanimous judgment, however, dismissed the appeal saying that there was nothing in the suit that would have made the lower court to have ruled otherwise.
“The appellant performed abysmally and has not proved any case,” the Appeal Court ruled on Thursday.
