Ibori Shocks Delta Turns Back On Omo-Agege In New Year Mobilisation For Oborevwori

The political landscape in Delta is reverberating with shock after Chief James Ibori appeared to turn his back on Senator Ovie Omo-Agege with a New Year call on his followers to support the Governor Sheriff Oborevwori led administration in the state.

No reason was immediately given for the volte-face by Ibori who had clashed with the immediate past governor of the state, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa on his support for Oborevwori as his successor.

GWG.ng reports that Ibori had appeared to back the All Progressives Congress, APC and shocked many of his followers when he also appeared to back Asiwaju Bola Tinubu against his long time political soul mate, Atiku Abubakar in the 2023 presidential election.

That decision to turn against Atiku was premised on the PDP presidential candidate’s choice of Okowa as his running mate.

Ibori had shown his preference for Chief David Edevbie as Okowa’s successor but Okowa in an interview with GWG.ng among other leading media platforms had said that he was decided against Edevbie on the claim that the latter had betrayed him in 2014 when he turned from his major cheerleader to major rival for the PDP ticket.

Okowa had confessed that he gave Ibori the option of choosing another aspirant but that the Ogidiborigbo as the former political godfather is widely known, stuck to his guns on Edevbie until few days before the 2022 primaries when according to Okowa he could not change his support for Oborevwori.

GWG.ng further recalls that the decision by the Ibori camp to back Omo-Agege and the APC in the presidential and governorship election was, however, ineffectual in Delta as the APC failed to pull traction in either of the two polls.

Ibori has, however, through his old links with Tinubu continued to prevail in presidential nominations in Delta State.

GWG.ng Political Desk asserts that the change of tune by Ibori with his New Year call for support for Oborevwori could be a moral dilemma for the Omo-Agege camp which had been pushing through the narrative of the former Deputy Senate President claiming the mandate in the Supreme Court.

In his message to Deltans to support the present administration, Ibori said:
