NCDC DG Lauds NAUTH Workforce On COVID-19 Protocol

The Director General (DG) of Nigeria Center for Disease Control, NCDC, Dr Chike Ihekweazu has commended front line medicare providers in the Southeast and the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, NAUTH, Nnewi, Anambra, State in particular for their observance and propagation of COVID-19 protocols.
He said that their efforts were responsible for the low positive number of infected patients in the zone.
Speaking during a visit to Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, NAUTH, Nnewi, Anambra State, Dr Ihekweazu also appreciated the management and staff of NAUTH for their prompt response to Covid-19 pandemic.
He particularly thanked the NAUTH front-line medical personnel who are waging the battle against Covid-19 pandemic, saying that the Covid-19 pandemic is still very much around and urged all and sundry to endeavor to take their jab of the vaccine.
Dr Ihekweazu emphatically stated that all the rumours and speculations around the vaccine are unfounded, adding that he has taken his and has been doing his work without hitches.
Dr Ihekweazu who expressed satisfaction with the performance of the acting Chief Medical Director, AG, CMD, of NAUTH, Associate Prof Joseph Ugboaja, urging the workers to support him.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Acting CMD of NAUTH, Prof Ugboaja, appreciated the NCDC DG for his support for the institution, saying that in NAUTH, they are doing their best in the fight against the pandemic.
“We have a taskforce in place, a treatment center and committed and trained workforce. We admit and manage both suspected and confirmed cases. We have managed over three hundred patients with fourteen mortalities. Our team also undertake home care, public sensitization and training for healthcare workers.”
Prof Ugboaja, however, pointed out some of the challenges facing NAUTH included limited capacity of the isolation center and lack of dedicated ambulances for evacuation of patients.
Prof Ugboaja also used the occasion to notify the NCDC DG of the preparedness of NAUTH’s management under his watch to make the hospital one of best five institutions in Nigeria.
Also speaking the pioneer CMD of NAUTH Prof. Okechukwu Mbonu, said that the hospital is currently embarked upon building a virology laboratory and called for support and donations.
According to Prof. Mbonu, “we want our patients here to to be treated as somebody and not as nobody.
While appreciating the good job being done by Dr Ihekweazu, Prof. Mbonu, said, ” I have seen for once in Nigeria a purposeful leadership in the leadership of NCDC Director General.”
