Obi Of Onitsha Fumes Against Presence Of Armed Fulani In Southeast Forests

The Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe has blurted out over the invasion of Southeast forests by foreign Fulani terrorists masking as herdsmen warning that the people would be forced to take action if the authorities refuse to remove them.

The Onitsha monarch, said that it has become very imperative for the Federal Government and security agencies to adequately secure the country to avoid the people finding a way of securing themselves, saying that South East has had enough of invasion of foreigners into their forests.

Igwe Achebe who spoke, while receiving six security motorcycles donated by Rai and Salim, R&S Loto Limited, to the newly formed Onitsha Ado Community Vigilante Unit, also said that South East forests have been invaded by Fulani men who pretend to be herdsmen when they are not.

“In South East, our forests have been invaded by Fulani men who call themselves herdsmen, but we know that they are not herdsmen, we know Fulani herdsmen even when we were growing up, as people who live peacefully with the local community, but there is a new introduction and movement, which is now people from outside the country coming into Nigeria,” the Obi of Onitsha said.

“They are coming and moving into our forests, kidnapping and killing our people. We have made representation to the security authorities and we expect them to act now. I know there is serious dialogue going on. Our Governors have to speak with one voice, is now that action must be taken.”

According to the Obi of Onitsha, who is also the Chairman of Anambra State Council of Traditional Rulers, “we call on security agents to rise up to their duties to protect the people, but if they cannot protect the people, ultimately the people will protect themselves and we do not want to get to that, because we are not law enforcement agents.”

Igwe Achebe thanked Chairman and Chief Executive of R & S Loto, Chief Francis Chidiac, who was represented by Mr Charbel Chidiac for donating six motorcycles, twelve Walkie Talkie and cash to the Onitsha Community Vigilante Unit, just as he thanked the indigenes of the community who donated three patrol vehicles to the vigilante.

Speaking on behalf of R & S Loto Limited, Anambra State Manager, Mr Raphael Emejulu, said that “since ten years the company came into the state and Onitsha, in particular, it has been working to reduce insecurity through employment and empowerment of the youths.”
