Ayiri Kicks As Chiefs Name Tsola Emiko Olu Of Warri
The son of Atuwatse ll, the 19th Olu of Warri, Prince Tsola Emiko was on Monday named as the new Olu of Warri following the formal announcement of the passage of the 20th Olu of Warri, His Royal Majesty, Ogiame Ikenwoli. However, controversy immediately shadowed the unveiling of Prince Tsola Emiko by the chiefs as the Ologbotsere of Warri, Chief Ayiri Emami affirmed the declaration irregular, saying that HRM Ogiame Ikenwoli had not joined his ancestors.
GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that the 20th Olu had appointed Ayiri into the powerful position of Ologbotsere stirring concern among some senior Itsekiri chiefs.
Prince Tsola Emiko’s emergence was announced by the Iyatsere of Warri and Acting Chairman of Olu’s Advisory council, Chief Johnson Amatserunreleghe at Ode-Itsekiri, the ancestral home of the Itsekiri people.
Prince Tsola Emiko was named following the formal announcement of the passage of His Royal Majesty, Ogiame Ikenwoli.
He, however, declared that Prince Tsola Emiko would remain Olu-Designate pending all traditional and formal processes following which he would be crowned as the 21st Olu of Warri.
His emergence it, was declared, flags off a three-month mourning period in the Itsekiri Nation during which burials, marriages, and social activities would be banned until the new Olu is crowned.
Prince Tsola Emiko is a 37-year-old Political Science graduate who also holds a Master’s of Science degree in Management.
The declaration in Ode Itsekiri of Prince Tsola Emiko as the new Olu was shadowed by Chief Ayiri who declared the process as irregular with his claim that the 20th Olu had not joined his ancestors.
He declared: ” The Olu has not joined his ancestors. As far as I am concerned, whatever was done today at Ode – Itsekiri was kangaroo in search of power. The person that has the right to pronounce the transition of the Olu of Warri, whenever that happens, is the Ologbotsere, which I am till this moment by the grace of God.
“I must add that the 1979 edict has not been amended to give any other person the right to pronounce the passage of the Olu of Warri, apart from the Ologbotsere “.
