DSS Opens Up On Buhari’s Driver’s Death

The claim that the late official driver of President Muhammadu Buhari, Mr Sa’idu Afaka was tortured to death by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) has been refuted. The development on Buhari’s driver’s death follows mixed reports on the circumstances of his death in the media.
The rebuttal follows the report in an online publication to the effect that the late Afaka was tortured following his alleged involvement in a deal that saw him get President Buhari to sign documents that benefited him millions of naira.
Sahara Reporters had alleged that he was as such detained by the DSS and fell ill following interrogations and died at the Aso Rock Clinic.
GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that President Buhari had on the death of the driver mourned the late driver as a honest and dedicated aide who he said returned a huge sum of money while on pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.
Rebuffing the claims that the late official driver to Buhari was tortured to death, the DSS in a statement said Afaka was not even detained by the service before his death.
A statement by Dr. Peter Afunanya, DSS Public Relations Officer on Thursday in Abuja, said that reports in some sections of the media that the department tortured the late driver to death was misleading information.
Afunanya said that Buhari’s driver’s death did not have anything to do with a detention or torture which the service said did not happen.
According to him, suspect handling method is usually in compliance with the tenets of criminal justice administration system and democracy.
The DSS spokesman, therefore, urged the public to disregard the fake news trending in online platform.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, on April 6 announced the death of Afaka.
Shehu said the late driver died after a prolonged illness and extended the condolences of the President to his family.
