We Were Flogged Daily- Kaduna Forestry Student

The abductors of the 39 students of the Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation in Kaduna flogged their victims daily and denied them opportunity to pray, one of the five hostages released on Wednesday has said.

Abdulganiyu Aminu, among the second batch of five students of College of Forestry Mechanisation rescued from bandits, says their kidnappers refused them to pray and flogged them daily in the forest.

Relieving their experience in captivity for three weeks, he said their captors refused them opportunity to perform daily Muslim prayers whenever the students asked.

Speaking shortly after the state government handed them over to the college management, Aminu said two of his siblings, Harun and Adamu, were among the 39 Afaka students kidnapped and still in captivity.

“During my three weeks in the forest I didn’t have a proper sleep, in fact, how can one sleep? because they didn’t allow us to perform prayers and  If the bandits didn’t flog us, they will use their gun butt to hit us,’ he said in attestation to the claim that they were flogged daily.

In hours after their kidnap three weeks ago, a video emerged showing men in military fatigues flogging the students.

Aminu described his ordeal as the “most harrowing experience” in his 25 years on earth.

The five students handed over to the school management were  Suzan Jatau, Ishaya Jafaru, Abdulganiyu Aminu, Haruna Aminu and  Adamu Amin.

In his remarks, the state commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs Samuel Aruwan said the government was happy over the release of the additional five students.

He charged the released students to “let this predicament not discourage you from continuing with your studies”.

Receiving the students on behalf of the management, the provost of the college, Usman Bello said, thanked all the stakeholders that made the reunion possible as he expressed hope that the remaining students will be released soon.

The first batch of the abducted students was officially handed over to their parents at the ministry of internal security and home affairs on Wednesday, bringing the total number of students freed to 10.
