APC election shift

The All Progressives Congress, APC has renounced a zoning formula for the 2023 offices that surfaced on social media on Wednesday. The party said that it was yet to make a decision on zoning and that stakeholders should as such ignore the list.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that there was a stir on social media on Wednesday when a zoning formula purportedly issued by the party started trending.

The zoning permutations had the presidency, Senate President zoned to the South while the Vice-President and national chairman of the ruling party were zoned to the North.

Denouncing the zoning, secretary of the APC caretaker committee, Senator John James Akpanudoedehe said it was the handiwork of mischievous elements as he said that the party would not be forced to do zoning without the right input of stakeholders including the president.

He said: “People who are interested in running for one office or the other can speculate. As far as I am concerned, the last Caretaker Committee meeting we had, we did not discuss that. That is not what we are concerned with now. What we are concerned with is data collection. How to collect data without making mistakes.

Why APC Rejected Viral Zoning List

“We are not going to be pressurized by sentiments and then we do the wrong thing

“Let me say that zoning is not for the Caretaker Committee alone. It has to do with the President, it has to do with other major stakeholders, it has to do with a lot of people.

“I want to mute the speculation. The list is not from us ( Caretaker Committee). There is no way such decision will be taken without consulting with the President, consulting with the governors and other major stakeholders. People should disregard the list. We are focused on delivering our mandate and we are to do it rightly”.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG recalls that a number of party chieftains including President Muhammadu Buhari had either publicly or through coded messages indicated that the presidency should go to the South in 2023 after eight years in the north.
