Gombe State Governor Imposes Curfew After Communal Clash

The governor of Gombe State, Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya has imposed a 24-hour curfew on three communities.

These three communities are in the Balanga Local Government and this comes after a violent communal clash.

Per what we gathered, the violence claimed lives and led to destruction of properties in Nyuwar, Jessu and Tolde.

An eyewitness identified as Kabiru Abubakar Sulaiman stated that the violence erupted on April 12 and it was between youth hunters of Lunguda and Waja ethnic groups in the three towns located along the Gombe-Yola federal highway.

The curfew was announced by the Secretary to the State Government Ibrahim Njodi in a recent statement which reads;

“Gombe State Government has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Nyuwar, Jessu and Yolde communities in Balanga Local Government Area of the state with immediate effect.

The Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, who made the announcement, said the decision followed the violence that erupted in the communities.

According to the SSG, the curfew becomes necessary to douse the tension and restore peace and order in the affected areas.

He said security personnel have been deployed to restore normalcy while the curfew will subsist until further notice.”
