Greenfield Varsity: Kidnappers Want N800m Ransom

The kidnappers who abducted 23 students and staff from Greenfield University in Kaduna State, have reportedly made a ransom demand of N800 million for the captives.

“Negotiations are going on, the kidnappers have contacted some family members, asking for the payment of N800 million,” a cousin to one of the kidnapped students, Georgina Stephen told Vanguard.

She said the abductors asked her family to pay N8 million ransom before they could secure the release of their sister from captivity. According to Georgiana, the abducted 23 included 14 girls, 6 boys and the staff of the university. She said the kidnapers had subjected the students to torture, saying unless the ransom is paid, all the students in captivity would be killed.

 GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that the Police Command in Kaduna State, had confirmed the attack by gunmen on Greenfield University on Tuesday evening.

The Greenfield university located on Kaduna-Abuja highway, was attacked by kidnappers at about 8:35p.m on Tuesday.

The Command Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Jalige told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Kaduna, that some of the students were abducted.

Jalige however said that the number of students kidnapped had not been ascertained.

He said security operatives have been deployed to the general area for search and rescue operation.

The kidnappers of the Greenfield university who came in the wake of the unresolved kidnap of 39 students of the Federal School of Forestry, Mando, Kaduna. 10 of those students have been freed while 29 others are remaining.

Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State had over time vowed not to negotiate with terrorists vowing that they would be dealt with according to the rule of law.
