Captivity Of The Philistines

Published

on

And the children of Israel did evil again in the sight of the LORD; and the LORD delivered them into the hand of the Philistines forty years. Judges 13:1.

The Philistines were an anti-Jewish Confederacy who historically troubled the people of Israel.

It was based on this enmity that God decided to take them through the wilderness as they came out of Egypt.

“And it came to pass, when Pharaoh had let the people go, that God led them not through the way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near; for God said, Lest peradventure the people repent when they see war, and they return to Egypt:” Exodus 13:17.

They had also troubled and stopped the business of their patriarch, Isaac, stopping his wells.

“For all the wells which his father’s servants had digged in the days of Abraham his father, the Philistines had stopped them, and filled them with earth.” Genesis 26:14.

But God was on the side of the Patriarchs giving them unusual victory over these philistines.

The bible tells us that Abraham sojourned in their land unmolested; Genesis 21:34.

He could abide cos of God’s grace. Even when they tried to frustrate Isaac’s business, we are told God rather turned it to victory for him as God enlarged him.

His descendants who took to sin and idolatry, however, had the Philistines as a snare.

It is the same today. Sin brings one into the captivity of the modern day Philistines.

Modern day captivity of the philistines comes in diverse forms, spiritually and physically.

May the Lord deliver His people everywhere from such.

Good Day
