Amaechi And His Music Video: Five Takeaways

Amaechi

After Rotimi Amaechi became the first public official to release a music video, reactions as to the import of his action are still distilling among political pundits.

For sure, Amaechi is one of the nation’s most enduring politicians having been in government at one level or the other since 1999. Only few like Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, James Manager, Senator Ike Ekweremadu among a handful can vouch as much political endurability as the Minister of Transportation.

So, it is not surprising that Amaechi in the view of some pundits could not have gone into his new musical career without weighing the political implications.

In the music video titled ‘Blessed People the Lord Has Chosen as His Heritage’, Amaechi and his wife alongside their children are seen singing to the faithfulness of God and to those He has chosen as His heritage. The occasion was the 56th birthday of the Honourable Minister of Transportation.

Here are some lessons we can learn from the Music Video:

  • God has been faithful to Amaechi. From the ashes of the political wilderness following his substitution as the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP governorship candidate in 2007, he was remarkably brought in by the Supreme Court to become governor of Rivers State in 2007.
  • Amaechi has also lately suffered despite his claim as being the route through whom almost all political office holders in Rivers State today came to renown. He was unable to present his slant of candidates for the 2019 elections following intra party squabbles. However, he can now claim ‘God’s faithfulness’ after the courts returned the structure fully to him.
  • Only a week ago, just as Amaechi was about ‘waxing’ his album, his former right hand man and pioneer chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Rivers State, Dr. Davies Ikanya defected last Saturday. So in the face of the defections and setbacks, Amaechi sings to the fact that he presently remains the most potent opposition leader to the ascendency of Nyesom Wike in Rivers State.
  • With the musical video, Amaechi has tried to show his human side. Despite his seeming croaky voice, Rivers political pundits would be imagining his rival, Nyesom Wike also singing along the same tune.
  • The religious slant of the music would also want to portray Amaechi as a ‘godly man.’ Few would forget when during a recent television interview he insinuated that he does not take decisions under the influence of alcohol, affirming that he does not drink. That claim brought out the indignation of Wike who used the opportunity of the commissioning of a project to lambast someone who claimed he does not drink but did all sorts of atrocities as governor of Rivers State and guzzles Energy Drinks!
