President Muhammadu Buhari has charged the nation’s security and intelligence agencies to expedite efforts towards the recovery of the 200 children kidnapped from an Islamic school in Niger State.

President Buhari gave the order for the release of the Niger State school children in a statement issued by his spokesman, Malam Garba Shehu, in Abuja on Monday.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG had reported that gunmen had again breached President Buhari’s vow that the kidnapping of school children would not happen again given after about 300 school girls of f Government Girls Secondary School, Jangebe, were released by their abductors last February.

However, since then the incidents have continued and parents of Greenfield University, Kaduna recently disclosed paying N180 million for the release of their 14 children to the bandits who kidnapped them.

Responding to the latest mass abduction of students that happened in an Islamic school in Niger State, Mallam Garba Shehu said the president, condemned the act after he received briefing on the incident.

He urged all the agencies involved in the rescue operation to do their utmost in securing their immediate release.

Shehu quoted Buhari as directing the concerned government agencies to extend possible support to the families of the kidnapped Niger State school children.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Police Command in Niger had on Sunday confirmed the abduction of school children and some residents of Tegina in Rafi Local Government Area of the state.

Mr Adamu Usman, the Commissioner of Police in the state told NAN in Minna that the children were abducted from Salihu Tanko Islamiya School.

He also confirmed that the abductors killed one person in the process.

He explained that the incident occurred at about 3 p.m. when a large number of bandits on motorcycles attacked the town. (NAN)

Meanwhile,  GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that the kidnappers of the 200 Niger school students have remained aloof to the presidential directive as they appeared not to be heeding Buhari.
