Reactions As Aisha Yesufu Is Dragged For Hypocrisy
An attempt to drag socio-political activist, Aisha Yesufu on Twitter with the allegation of hypocrisy was on Tuesday bouncing back as many Nigerians rose to her defence.
A hashtag #AishaTheHypocrite emerged on Tuesday drawing claims of hypocrisy against the co-founder of the Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG) group for supposedly sending her children to school abroad with denunciations of hypocrisy. Alongside, those determined to smear her also resurrected a tweet of her commending Vice President Yemi Osinbajo for doing well in the absence of President Muhammadu Buhari during one of the president’s medical vacations in 2018.
In the tweet, Yesufu had asked Buhari to stay back in London and allow Osinbajo continue on the job of running the country.
Against the background of her seeming disappointment with the Buhari/Osinbajo some twitter users had blasted Aisha Yesufu for hypocrisy for apparently being inconsistent by not continuing support for Osinbajo or for whatever reason/
However, as the #AishaTheHypocrite gained ground, many otherwise unbiased twitter users and her tweeps joined the fray to criticize what they claimed was a desperate attempt to fend her off from coming social protests against the Buhari administration. Those who came to the defence of Aisha Yesufu quickly identified those behind the hypocrisy tag as paid agents.
GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that Aisha Yesufu has been consistent in taking positions against failures of government with a reputation for lampooning both Goodluck Jonathan and his successor, Buhari and hence the attempt to drag her for hypocrisy was being seen in some quarters as a paid effort to smear her.
