Breaking: FG Suspends Twitter Operations In Nigeria

The Federal Government has suspended the operations of the social media microblogging platform, Twitter in the country, the minister of information and culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed announced on Friday.

Mohammed gave the directive vide a statement issued by Segun Adeyemi, Special Assistant to the President (Media), Office of the Minister of Information and Culture.

The government cited what it described as the persistent use of the platform for activities that are capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence as its reason.

Besides, the minister said the federal government has also directed the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to immediately commence the licensing all OTT and social media operations in Nigeria.

Federal Government action were not given but it could not be unconnected to the deletion of President Muhammadu Buhari’s tweet two days ago.
The administration’s effort is unprecedented.
