Delta 2023: How Omo-Agege Will Checkmate Rivals

In less than two years from now, preparations would be in top gear for the swearing-in ceremony of a new Governor of Delta State, who by God’s grace will be His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Ovie Omo-Agege.

In the meantime, a chess game of sort has begun for the two major political parties in the state –  the All Progressives Congress, APC and the People’s Democratic Party,  PDP. They have started setting the board and checking to confirm if the numerical and alphabetical designs of the chess mat are in order.

The next phase would be to arrange the pieces, which Governor Okowa has signalled with the recent sack of his cabinet members who will soon be replaced by a new set of officials/pawns for the game ahead.

Soon the battle will commence with PDP’s deceitful administration on one side, preparing for what many observers are predicting to be a  stunning loss in the ultimate calculation game in a little over twenty months’ time. Their failure they say, would come as a result of the damage the PDP has caused to the economic fortunes of Delta State due to gross incompetence and inability to harness the state’s enormous resources, thus making Delta State the runt amongst her oil-producing peers in the region.

On the other hand, the APC in Delta State under the leadership of the charismatic Deputy President of the Senate, His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, like a Chess Grandmaster, appears strongly poised to position its own pieces with masterly flourish with a focus towards solidifying and dominating the center, from whence the APC intends to squeeze and give the opponent no breathing space until total victory is realized.

These of course are chess terms, but they share similarities with the real-life, non-combative struggle for power in the political arena, where the blows of the opponent could be no less devastating and the effect of defeat, crushing.

Furthermore, recent divisions in Delta State PDP due to activities of factions within the party and differing ethnic agendas, have given credence to analysts’ predictions about the imminent collapse of the party, thus providing the prospect of a stroll in the park for the APC, in the general election of 2023.

In view of the foregoing, while the PDP fumbles, the beautiful bride of the All Progressives Congress in the state, Distinguished Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has continued to grow in leaps and bounds of popularity, not only in Abuja where he holds sway as the Deputy President of the Senate but across Delta State where he has influenced the execution of projects to all nooks cranies.

The Senator has also sponsored many bills which have positively affected the lives of not only residents of the state, but that of citizens across the nation. These include the Dormant Account Bill 2016, to review and manage unattended funds in the nation’s banking system and improve the economic fortunes of the nation.

Distinguished Senator Ovie Omo-Agege’s developmental strides are in virtually all sectors, including the building of schools, installation of solar-powered streetlight projects and water reticulation schemes.

This is in addition to the facilitation of numerous electricity and road rehabilitation projects across many cities of Delta State which has endeared him to all and sundry.

It should be emphasized that His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Ovie Omo-Agege is a leader who listens and has the fear of God. He is very accessible and more importantly, a detribalized administrator whose focus is the rapid infrastructural development of Delta State holistically and not along ethnic lines.

DSP Ovie Omo-Agege is a pan-Deltan patriot, as evidenced in his unbiased spread of political appointment, picking aides from the three senatorial districts of the state. In fact, his Deputy Chief of Staff is from Delta North. Also, his list of close appointees include Senior Aides from Ijaw, Itsekiri and Isoko nations.

By and large, one could deduce that with the failure of the PDP in the governance of Delta State over the years, contrasted against the sterling performance of the Obarisi of Urhoboland as mentioned above, salient factors about the likely outcome of the imminent chess match for the 2023 gubernatorial race in Delta State have already been amply determined.

Very likely, in the concluding moves when the pawns and officers of the Okowa regime are down and Senator Ovie Omo-Agege’s opponents shuffle away in a losing position, the last word that the PDP will hear is:  checkmate.
