Euro 2021, is finally arriving after a long wait that was orchestrated by the protocols of the COVID-19 pandemic that forced a year long postponement of the elite soccer tournament among Europe’s top nations.

Previous European Cup of Nations competitions have been characterized by eye-catching performances from different players. Five players to watch out for in this tournament include

Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal),  Robert Lewandowski (Poland)  Kylian Mbappe: (France); Bruno Fernandes, and Harry Kane (England).

1. Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal): Portugal’s inspirational skipper notched up 36 goals in the Serie A, helped Juventus qualify for the Champions League and won the Coppa Italia. The five time Ballon d’or winner will be looking to translate his stellar goalscoring exploits to the colors of the national team. His knack for scoring a lot of goals makes him one to watch out for. Having won the competition last time out, the defending champions can count on him to get off the mark against Hungary in their first game and for the rest of the competition. Aged 36, this could be his last Euros competition. Every player would want to sign off superbly. A player of Ronaldo’s calibre who has achieved a lot in his career will like to add another feather to his well decorated hat.

2. Robert Lewandowski (Poland): An astonishing 41 goals in the Bundesliga last season makes Robert Lewandowski one of the hottest football properties in the world at the moment. No other player in Europe has scored more goals than the Bayern Munich striker in the past three seasons, not even Ronaldo and Messi could keep up with the Polish ace. Finding the back of the net is extremely easy for the hitman, which is why most defenses are petrified by his presence. The Polish football bandwagon can be pretty confident that they have a big player than can rise up to such a big occasion.

3. Kylian Mbappe: Fast, skillful, precious and hazardous, France’s poster-boy is a force to be reckoned with in world football. The 22-year-old World Cup winner has been the highest goalscorer in Ligue 1 for the past three seasons and is the youngest player to reach 100 Ligue 1 goals for PSG. He is France’s talisman in a star-studded team. With the ability to score copious amount of goals, France are well to do with Mbappe in their ranks. At the 2018 World Cup, he was the best young player. His records speak for him going into the Euro 2021 as one of the best entertainers in world football.

4. Harry Kane (England): England have been very much castigated for always falling short at the biggest stages. However, Harry Kane can prove to be the antidote to this long-lasting English conundrum. After winning the golden boot and emerging as the player with most assists in the English top flight last season, Harry Kane became only the second player to achieve that feat after Andy Cole in 1993-94 as he scored 23 goals and assisted 14 times. The Tottenham striker sensationalized English football with a touch of class and will be looking to lead England to European glory. In the 2018 World Cup, he finished as the top goalscorer with 6 goals as England reach the semi-final. This sort of player will be a cynosure of all eyes at the Euros.

5. Bruno Fernandes (Portugal): Bruno Fernandes has established himself as one of the best players in the world since signing for Manchester United in the January transfer window of 2020. Since then, he has been named as player of the month four times. Last season he scored  18 goals and delivered 12 assists in the Premier League. A midfielder who can score plentiful goals and find a gaping hole in the heart of any defense is simply a joy to watch. Cristiano Ronaldo and Fernandes’ combination are to be watched out for in Euro 2021.
