Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State has finally given reasons on how he was pictured stepping on a poster of his predecessor and former political leader turned foe, Senator Rabiu Kwankwanso.

The governor explained that the incident which happened last Saturday was wholly unintentionally and should not give a wrong impression of who he is.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that the image of Governor Ganduje stepping on the poster of his predecessor had excited debate in Kano with the governor being branded in some quarters as vindictive and mischievous through the action.

Explaining himself in a statement issued by the state commissioner for Information, Malam Muhammad Garba, the government said the action was unpremeditated.

According to him political differences and misunderstanding would not change the character of the governor into a person of mischief.

Observing that some within and outside Kano had sought to twist the incident to suit t”he scenario for their egoistic interest”, he said that it would become a big wound to the conscience if facts are misrepresented.

Giving what he claimed as the facts of what happened, he said, “During the event, which was organized as part of activities marking this year’s Democracy Day, two former gubernatorial candidates and many members of the Kwankwasiyya defected to the APC.

“When Governor Ganduje was called to the podium, the former Kwankwasiyya members lined up on the way to applaud and pay their allegiance to the governor.

“Some of the members who abandoned the Kwankwasiyya movement at the event, parenthetically, were down playing pictures of the former governor, one of which, dropped on the red carpet as Governor Ganduje walked his way to the podium, and unknowingly stepped on it,” he said.

The information commissioner further observed that Governor Ganduje has won a reputation as a man of peace and patience who would not trample on his character to trample on the picture of a Kano elder.
