Okowa Unveils 17 Nominees As Commissioners

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State has presented 17 nominees to the Delta State House of Assembly for consideration and confirmation as commissioners.

The names of the nominees were read by the Speaker, Honorable Sheriff Oborevwori at plenary.

Those nominated by Governor Okowa for appointment as Commissioners are; Mr. Charles Aniagwu, Dr. Barry Gbe, Mr. Ifeanyi Egwunyenga, Chief Arthur Akpowowo, and Chief Festus Ochonogor.

Others are Mrs. Flora Alanta, Mr. Churchill Amagada, Engineer Jonathan Igworiwoh, Hon. Evelyn Oboro, Engr. Noel Omordon, Chief Fidelis Tilije, and Mrs Rose Ezewu.

Also nominated as Commissioners are, Engr. Lawrence Ejiofor, Princess Shola Ogbemi-Daibo, Mr. Chris Onogba, Mrs Kate Onianwa, and Mr. John Onyema.

Governor Okowa said the nomination of the proposed commissioners as members of the State Executive Council was in line with the powers vested on him by section 192, subsection 2 of the 1999 constitution as amended.

The commissioners’ nominees of Gov Okowa have been directed to submit twenty-five copies of their CV to the office of the Clark on or before June 21, and to appear for screening on June 22, 2021.

 GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that Governor Okowa had ahead of the second anniversary of his second term in office dissolved the state cabinet and sacked all aides on the claim of rejigging the cabinet and on the claim that several were already getting bogged down by politics.

Meanwhile there was tension on Thursday in Orhuwhorun, Udu Local Government Area of Delta State, following the alleged killing of a commercial motorcycle rider (Okada man) by a policeman on stop-and-search duties. The operational vehicle of the policemen who fled after the shooting has been set ablaze.

Sources said that the okada man was brought down by an accidental discharge of the gun of one of the policemen involved in the stop and search operation.

There were other sources who informed that cyclist died after being shot for refusing to part with a N100 bribe demanded by the policemen.

The incident happened about 9:45am on Thursday by at Orhuwhorun Police Post around Free Indeed Church Junction at DSC Township in Udu.
