Why Masari Ruled Out Further Talks With Bandits

Governor Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina State has vowed not to engage in further dialogue with bandits in the state due to their lack of central leadership and structure.

Masari, who made the declaration while visiting the Chief of Air Staff, CAS, Isiaka Oladayo Amao at NAF Headquarters, Abuja, said the State Government had made several attempts in the past to engage the bandits but that not much success was recorded because each group of bandits operates independently.

He further recalled that the bandits also betrayed the state government in the previous agreements reached with them, insisting that his administration would continue to make efforts to tackle banditry in the state.

He also commended men and officers of the Nigerian Air Force and other security agents operating in the state for their efforts which has helped greatly in curtailing the activities of the bandits.

He said; ’’the security situation was compounded by the vastness of the Katsina open border with the Niger Republic as well as the huge ungovernable spaces in the State which gives the bandits freedom of movement.”

Responding, the CAS thanked the governor for taking the decision not to extend amnesty to the bandits.

He further assured that the bandits and other criminals would be dealt with decisively and that the security situation would improve for the better

He said; “With the induction of new platforms including the Super Trucanos and other platforms in the next month, there will be no hiding place for these bandits in the North West.”

On ongoing NAF operational projects in Katsina State, Air Marshal Amao assured Governor Masari that when completed, the projects would enhance the operational capabilities and reach of NAF platforms in the State.
