“The Federal Government’s team also comprises the Attorney General of the Federation and Honourable Minister of Justice, Honourable Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Honourable Minister of Works and Housing, Honourable Minister of State for Labour and Employment as well as other relevant government agencies,” a statement issued by the special assistant to the president, Mr. Special Assistant to The President (Media) Office of the Minister of Information and Culture said.

The statement further observed that “Following the indefinite suspension of its operations in Nigeria, for activities that are capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence, Twitter wrote to President Buhari seeking to engage with the Federal Government over the suspension, with a view to charting a path forward.”

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that the Federal Government had on June 4, 2021 in an unprecedented decision announced the ban on the operations of twitter in the country. The announcement which was conveyed on twitter and other platforms has been condemned from near and far as an attempt to stifle free speech in the country.

However, the Federal Government had claimed that it was an attempt to protect the country which it said was being undermined by Twitter.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that the Federal Government’s action came after Twitter removed a post by President Muhammadu Buhari was removed by the microblogging site for supposedly violating the code of ethics of the platform.
