Group commends DHQ for parley with veterans, berates Sheik Gumi over comment

The Mothers for United Nigeria (MUN) has commended the Armed Forces of Nigeria for its determination to restore peace in the country by collaborating with retired senior military officers.

A security meeting tagged “CDS Interaction with Retired Senior Military in the Southwest,” organized by the Defence Headquarters (DHQ), held at the Headquarters 2 Division, Nigerian Army, Ibaban, Oyo state.

MUN’s Publicity Secretary, Hajia Salamatu Adebayo, in a press release on Thursday, welcomed the parley between the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Lucky Irabor veterans in the Southwest, saying it is an opportunity to tap into their wealth of experience.

While lamenting the security challenges facing the country, MUN expressed hope that the meetings will restore peace in the country.

The group also condemned comments credited to Islamic scholar, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi while appearing as a guest on a Television station in Abuja that some Nigerian soldiers were conniving with bandits and worsening the security situation in the country.

The group said: “Recall that in March this year, the DHQ organized a summit with theme “Promoting Kinetic Operations as a major Plank for Counter-Terrorism and Counter-Insurgency in Nigeria”. All is a reflection of continued search for peace”

“We are glad the meeting will be replicated in the other geo-political zones as issues at stake will be aggregated.
