Governor of Zamfara State, Bello Matawalle, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The presidency confirmed Matawalle’s defection on Sunday after months of hobnobbing with the hierarchy of the ruling party.

Presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad, confirmed Matawalle defection in a short Facebook post on Sunday.

“So Zamfara is back home, Welcome Matawalle,” the post read.

The defection has, however, not been made formal or confirmed by the governor or anyone in his government.

Recall that Matawalle, back in April, was visited by six PDP governors, a move to dissuade him not to join the APC.

The governors, including Seyi Makinde of Oyo, Nyesom Wike of Rivers, Bala Mohammed of Bauchi, Darius Ishaku of Taraba, Umar Fintiri of Adamawa and Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto.

Upon the official confirmation of his defection, Matawalle will become the third governor in the last four months to quit their membership of the main opposition party for the ruling party, following in the footsteps of his cross river and Ebonyi counterpart, Ben Ayade and David Umahi respectively.
