Lawmakers Prescribe Death Penalty For Terrorists, Kidnappers
The House of Assembly in Niger State, North-central Nigeria has passed a bill into law recommending that kidnappers and terrorists be sentenced to death by hanging.
The bill which was passed on Tuesday, June 29, 2021, is to amend the kidnapping and Cattle Rustling (Special Provision) Law 2021 in the state.
Bawa Wuse, the Speaker of the Assembly, while passing the bill into law noted that the law would go a long way in curtailing banditry and kidnapping activities in the state once the Governor, Abubakar Bello assets to it.
“It should be noted that Niger State has been having running battles with kidnapping and cattle rustling as even as over 11 out of 25 local government areas are said to have been overtaken by their activities,” the speaker said.

“The increasing activities of the criminal elements have also affected farming activities in the state,” the lawmaker added.
In Feb. 2021, terrorists abducted students from Government Secondary School, Kagara, few days after 21 commuters on a Niger State Government-owned bus traveling were kidnaped.
HumAngle also reported the most recent abduction of 136 pupils of Tanko Salihu Islamiyya School in Tegina on May 30, 2021. They were kidnapped by terrorists to an unknown location who are yet to be rescued.
