Sunday Igboho Absent At Lagos Yoruba Nation Rally

Despite the heavy cordon of security agencies around the Gani Fawehinmi Park in Ojota, Lagos State, Yoruba Nation agitators defied their presence to hold a rally for self determination with African religion costume.

Clad in cultural regalia synonymous with African traditional religion, the agitators comprising men and women made a brief appearance at the park that has been synonymous for rebellion.

 GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that the symbol of the agitation, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho who had a standoff with security agencies only two days ago was, however, absent.

Despite the insistence by the police that no rally would be allowed at the park, some of the agitators managed to slip through the police cordon and unfolded their banners calling for Yoruba self determination. Perhaps the eyes of the police fixed on Sunday Igboho did not envisage his collaborators slipping through.

They also distributed flyers reading “Ilosiwaju Ominira Yoruba Nation.”

The police action was initially to respond by spraying them with hot water but as that seemed not to be effective enough, the police sent bullets into the air to drive the agitators away.

One of the agitators who spoke to journalists at the venue said that it was time for the Yoruba to have a separate nation of their own, saying that they do not share any similar cultural or other ties with other parts of the federation.

The rally for Yoruba self determination has been held in major towns of the Southwest dominated by the Yoruba with no account of violence.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG is unable to confirm reports of arrests at the venue of the rally which is ongoing but without the presence of the symbol of Yoruba self-determination, Sunday Igboho.
