Kaduna Borno

Armed men allegedly belonging to the Boko Haram group have reportedly kidnapped a Rev. Fr. Elijah Juma Wada of the Catholic Dioceses of Maiduguri, in Borno state.

The Catholic Priest according to a report was abducted on Damboa-Maiduguri Road in Borno on June 30.

At the time of filing this report, there was no comment from the diocese to corroborate the development. However, a credible source confirmed the incident.

According to the source, Father Wada was travelling from Buma Parish in Shani to Damaturu for the 10th-anniversary thanksgiving Mass of his friend Rev. Fr Yakubu Inda Philibus at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Damaturu.

Other sources said Wada was billed to relieve the Cathedral Administrator in Maiduguri who is taking another role in the diocese.

They claimed the priest mistakenly took the dangerous Damboa Maiduguri Road where he was abducted rather than the safer Buratai/Buni Yadi Road.

Meanwhile, Armed gunmen, on Monday morning, stormed Bethel Secondary School, Maramara Chickun Local Government Area of Kaduna State and kidnapped scores of students.

Bethel Secondary School is a boarding school located on the outskirts of Kaduna.

Mr Daniel Muhuta, a security guard in the school said, “I escaped narrowly. They came around 1.00 am and started shooting. I was at the back of the school dormitory when I heard shooting and decided to pin down.”

As of the time of filing this report, security personnel have cordoned off the area, as parents and relatives of the kidnapped students gathered at the entrance of the school in a sorrowful mood.

Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Jalige, did not pick his calls and did not respond to text messages sent to him.
