Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has echoed the sentiment of southern governors on the need for power to return to the south in 2023.

At a meeting in Lagos on Monday,  17 governors, under the umbrella of Southern Governors’ Forum, had, among other things, resolved that the next president of the country must come from the South.

A communiqué read by the Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, shortly after the meeting, said the forum is committed to politics of fairness and equity.

Reacting to the resolution, Zulum threw his weight behind the demand of the southern governors, adding that there’s need for the presidency to go to the south in order to preserve and strengthen the unity of Nigeria.

Zulum who spoke on Wednesday in an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, said his position was not informed by any political ambition.

Zulum noted that he is not nursing any ambition of becoming the vice president of the country.

He said, “I have said it times without number that I, Professor Babagana Zulum, I am of the view that the presidency should go to the south in the year 2023 because the unity of our country is very important.

“And I have said it before, I am not interested in becoming the vice president of the country, nor the president of the nation but I want to say the right thing”. Zulum said.
