Concern As Ganduje Replaces Anti-Graft Chairman
Inda Ahmad
Kano state governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has approved the appointment of Barrister Mahmoud Balarabe, as acting Executive Chairman of Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission.
A statement by Malam Abba Anwar, the Chief Press Secretary to Ganduje that was made available to GreenWhiteGreen GWG explained that Barrister Mahmoud Balarabe until his appointment was a Director, Public Prosecution with the state Ministry of Justice.
The Kano House of Assembly had on Monday suspended the former chairman, Barrister Muhuyi Magaji Rimi Gado for one month following a standoff between him and the Accountant general of the state.
Malam Anwar in the statement said the appointment is with immediate effect, as he enjoined the acting Executive Chairman to discharge his duties diligently, according to the laid down procedures establishing the Commission.
The suspension of Barrister Gado by the Kano State House of Assembly followed a faceoff between him and state government officials over the redeployment of an accountant attached to the former anti-graft czar.
The tussle it was gathered came in the heels of the determination of the anti-graft commission to question contracts supposedly awarded to family members of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje. Gado as anti-graft chairman was said to have stood his ground on questioning the governor’s family members on the contracts.
