Senator Rochas Okorocha lied when he said that he gave the All Progressives Congress, APC its name in the days leading to the registration of the new party, Mr. Osita Okechukwu, a member of the merger committee has said.

Okechukwu told  GreenWhiteGreen GWG that the new party already had its name before Okorocha was introduced to the emerging party by Senator Chris Ngige.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG had reported Okorocha as claiming being the one who gave the party its name last Wednesday, July 7 when he led a delegation of party leaders from Imo State to the national headquarters to canvass more inclusiveness in the affairs of the party in the state.

“We have come a long way in building this party. I was one of the founding fathers of the party. I brought in APGA with CPC and ACN to form what is known today as APC. I was the one who gave the name APC,” Okorocha had said.

However, countering him, Okechukwu in an email to  GreenWhiteGreen GWG editors rebuffed him saying that the name of the new party was proposed by the late James Ocholi and the present minister of aviation, Haidi Sirika.

He said:

“May I for the interest of your millions of readers put the records straight. It was late James Ocholi and Hadi Sirika that first proposed All Progressives Congress (APC), as the name of our great party.

“Chief James Ocholi, SAN of blessed memory first proposed the name at Nasawara State Governors lodge, Asokoro, supported by Hadi Sirika, Hon Minister of Aviation, under the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) delegates to the Merger Committee.

“Sirika was mandated to announce it at the general Merger Committee meeting at Chief Tom Ikimi’s house. And was adopted and then the debate of whether it will be APC or ACP ensued. The house was divided and after an hour break, I spoke on behalf of our group which advocated that All Progressives Congress is better that All Congress Party led by Hon Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola.

“By then, His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Rochas Okorocha and his faction of APGA had not been formally introduced by Senator Chris Ngige.”
