Delta 2023: Ijaw Lobby Anioma, Don’t Forget Urhobo Opposition To Rotation In 2014

Delta Ijaw for 2023 Governorship Consultative team led by its Chairman, Alaowei Broderick Bozimo, has expressed shock over the Urhobo disavowal of the 2014 Uvwiamuge Declaration in which they urged Urhobo politicians to abandon the principle of rotation of the governorship.

He spoke when the team visited the Delta North traditional rulers forum and Ika Socio-cultural group (Onu Ika) to seek their support for an Ijaw man to become governor come 2023.

Speaking at the palace of the HRM, Emmanuel Efeizomor (II) Obi of Owa Kingdom, Ika North East Local Government Area of Delta State, Bozimo appealed to the traditional rulers to support an Ijaw man to govern Delta State in 2023.

According to him the Ijaw in Delta State had in the past been supportive in the emergence of governors over the years at their own cost and as such pleaded with the traditional rulers to speak to their subjects for their support for Ijaws to produce governor come 2023.

He particularly expressed shock at the campaign for rotation by some Urhobo noting what he described as the rejection of same in 2014 when they proclaimed the Uvwiamuge Declaration where they called on sons of Urhobo nation to contest the 2015 governorship election at the expense of Delta North.

 Obi Efeizomor II, replying on behalf of the Delta North monarchs thanked the Ijaw for their support for the emergence of Senator Ifeanyi Okowa as candidate in 2014 during the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship primaries and assured that the Delta North monarchs would consult their subjects and offer royal advice.

According to the monarch, “Your visit will deepen our relationship, our doors are opened to everybody, my appeal to the Ijaws is to continue support for Governor Okowa for him to finish strong.”

Also at the secretariat of Ika socio-cultural group “Onu Ika,” Mr. Daniel Usifoh, Head, Collective leadership group, “Onu Ika” expressed joy about the visit of the Ijaw high delegation to the Ika nation.

He promised that the group would put the best interest of the state into consideration as he thanked the Ijaw for being reliable and trusted friends of the Ika nation.
