A civil war was breaking out in the Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC on Monday night after the party leadership moved to suppress an internal rebellion fired by some of the party’s prominent leaders from Delta North.

Erstwhile executive director in the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Dr. Cairo Ojougboh and former Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei were among prominent leaders who attended a meeting in Kwale where they raised objections to the dominance of the South-South leader of the party, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege. They also made inferences to the mace snatching incident of 2018.

The insubordination was immediately rebutted by the leadership of the Delta APC which warned dire sanctions for party renegades who it claimed were collaborating with the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to sabotage the party.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that Senator Omo-Agege had in the past year worked to build up the party in the state and forge unity in the top echelon of the party. However, his efforts have been of little success in bringing Dr. Ojougboh, a former national vice-chairman of the PDP and Ochei, an executive director in the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA under his sway.

At the Delta North Senatorial meeting in Kwale also attended by Engr. Deputy chairman, Elvis Ayomanor, Senatorial Chairman, Delta North District Caretaker Committee, Ogbueshi Ben Onwuka among 22 of the 30 members of the Senatorial District Exco, Dr. Ojougboh had said:

“We support a candidate with a good character. We would not accept someone who can rustle mace as Governor of Delta State in 2023,” he said.

He also frowned at alleged attempts by the APC leadership to stop the Delta North stakeholders’ meeting.

Ochei also said the party would not accept any attempt to browbeat the party into accepting a predetermined person on the 2023 governorship ticket.

“All we are looking for is a person who would occupy the office of Governor from the party. We are looking for someone with vision for infrastructural Development not a dictator” he stated.

” APC is not about what Ochei or Cairo wants, it is about the success of the party” he asserted.

However, the party in firm rejection at what it described as a rebel meeting warned that no one should consider himself as above sanctions as it described Dr. Ojougboh as a PDP agent.

Responding through the director of publicity, Nick Ovuaokporie, Delta State chapter of the APC attributed Cairo Ojougboh’s outburst to that of a confused PDP agent, sacked NDDC Ag. EDP and a deposed Akinuwa ( palace chief) who is seeking undeserved public relevance and doing the bidding of his co-travellers and paymasters in PDP.

While accusing the former NDDC executive director of alleged infractions, the APC accused Dr. Ojougboh of masterminding the fainting episode by the erstwhile managing director of the NDDC, Prof. Pondei at the House of Representatives for the purpose of avoiding questioning by the lawmakers.

“The Party hereby states unambiguously, that there was no APC Delta North meeting that held in Kwale as falsely alluded to in the Daily Independent newspaper report but a mere convergence of renegades whose anti-party activities are well documented having initially converged in Agbor on the instruction of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of the PDP, where they plotted the defection of one of their lackey Chief George Okafor to the PDP ahead of their eventual defection which the party has credible intelligence report on.

“The Party seizes this opportunity to warn Cairo Ojougboh and his impostors who are in the inglorious habit of dragging the APC and it’s leadership into disrepute to desist henceforth from further provoking the party to weird the big stick against their anti-party activities as no one is above discipline.

The party concluded by affirming the ruling of an FCT High Court that Omo-Agege was not directly involved in the mace snatching incident in the 8th Senate and should not be held culpable for the actions of his accomplices.

“The Party, however, warns these political harlots and impostors that ignorance is no excuse to the committal of crime as any further misplaced action including acts of mudslinging will be legally dealt with no matter who is involved,” the Delta APC warned.
