HURIWA Demands El-Rufai’s Resignation, Investigation Of Military, Police

The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, HURIWA, has called for the resignation of Kaduna State Governor, Nasiru El-Rufai.

HURIWA made the call while expressing worry over the extensive killings on in parts of Southern Kaduna State, especially, the recent killings by armed Fulani militia in Zango Kataf local government Area of the state.

The Rights Writers asked the National Assembly to probe the alleged widespread complicity of the military and police in these killings.

HURIWA observed that the heads of security forces in Kaduna State have come under increasing accusations of compromising the safety of Christians in the Southern region as their communities always come under continual attacks by armed Fulani terrorists.

This was contained in a statement signed by HURIWA’s National Coordinator, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko, and the National Media Affairs Director, Miss Zainab Yusuf, on Wednesday.

HURIWA also accused the service Chiefs and President Muhammadu Buhari of doing nothing to stop the systematic genocide going on in Southern Kaduna.

The statement read in part: “We’ve received a lot of complaints from hundreds of people in the line of fire in Southern Kaduna and most of these victims protested that the troops posted to maintain peace in Kaduna State have actively provided logistical support for the armed Fulani attackers carrying out the unimaginable scale of killings.

“We believe that the Kaduna State Governor needs to resign for doing nothing to stop the killings. In fact, there are alleged information that the Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai had once stated in a social media post that his kinsmen, the Fulani will always carry out reprisals if any of their people are killed and that if a person is killed, almost 100 persons from the alleged guilty party and community will be killed as revenge. Going by this story, it’s inconceivable that the governor would be bothered that his kinsmen are now waging a war of attrition on Christians over perceived earlier attacks, no matter how few the victims were.”
