Breaking: Six Tucano Jets Depart US For Nigeria

The first batch of 6 A-29 Super Tucano aircraft ordered by the Nigerian government have departed the United States of America on their way to Nigeria, the Nigerian Air Force announced on Thursday.

The six Tucano aircraft which are the first set of the 12 aircraft ordered by the Muhammadu Buhari administration according to the air force left the United States on Wednesday, 14 July 2021 en route Nigeria.

“The 6 aircraft will be leapfrogged through 5 countries including Canada, Greenland, Iceland, Spain and Algeria before arriving their final destination in Nigeria towards the end of July 2021,” air force spokesman, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet said in a statement obtained by  GreenWhiteGreen GWG.


“An official induction ceremony of the aircraft into the inventory of the Nigerian Air Force is already being planned at a later date in August 2021 to be announced in due course,” he said.

 GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that the Super Tucano fighter jet is carries a wide variety of weapons, including precision-guided munitions, and was designed to be a low-cost system operated in low-threat environments.

It is expected to be deployed by the Nigerian military in a robust challenge to the Boko Haram insurgency where its maneuverability aided by its precision would be of great advantage to the Nigerian military in smoking out the insurgents.
