Stalemate In Kano Anti-Corruption Agency Continues

The faceoff between the Kano State House of Assembly and the suspended chairman of the Kano Anti-Corruption Agency, Magaji Rimi Gado continued on Wednesday after the later stayed away from a House invitation.
His lawyer, Barrister Usman Fari said he was in Abuja attending to his medical needs.
GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that Gado was suspended by the House of Assembly following media reports of his determination to pursue investigations into contracts in which family members of top officials of the Kano State government were mentioned.
Barrister Fari who spoke with newsmen at the premises of the Assembly explained that they wanted to have adequate time and facility to prepare for defence
He stated that “Magaji Rimi Gado was suspended from office on 5th day of July, 2021, and no single document was served him till date
The Lawyer said ” he was not served with letter of suspension, a copy of allegations against him, no single document was served on him”
Fari explained that the only document he received was a “letter dated 12th day of July from the Committee of the House inviting him to appear before them without the name of the complainant, the name of the petitioner, and the allegation against him, nothing. “
Barrister Fari disclosed that his client is ready to honour and meet with the Kano State House of Assembly as soon as relevant documents were made available to them.
He cautioned that they were ready to take appropriate legal action to force compliance in event of failure to respond to their request.
Speaking on the development, Abdullahi AbdulSalam, Deputy Director, Legal, Kano state House of Assembly, and Secretary, Ad hoc Committee said the letter from Rimingado’s lawyer has forced the Committee to suspend sitting for now.
Barrister AbdulSalam said “The sitting today (Wednesday) has been suspended based on the letter submitted to us by Muhuyi Magaji-Rimingado counsel.”
He said “They sent a letter that he is attending to health issues, and they also requested for some documents from us which we are ready to oblige.”
