COVID-19: FG, Govs Speak On Imposition Of Fresh Lockdown Amid Third Wave

The federal government and state governors have allayed fears of Nigerians as concerns continue to mount over likelihood of another lockdown amid resurgence of the COVID-19 pandemic

Speaking with newsmen after a virtual National Economic Council (NEC) meeting presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Lagos Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu said there was no cause for alarm, urging Nigerians to remain calm.
According to the governor, there’s currently no indication that the government will resort to lockdown to curb spread of virulent infection as reports of for COVID-19 third wave gains traction.
Sanwo-Olu said the VP assured that NEC would convene an emergency meeting on the COVID-19 resurgence, if there was need for one.
COVID-19 Third Wave: NEC Says No Indication of Imminent Lockdown
The World Health Organisation (WHO) had warned of the spread of COVID-19 Delta variant.
Sanwo-Olu said there will be a review on every week to monitor the situation of things.
“The chairman of the council (Osinbajo) mentioned to us that if there is a need for an emergency meeting, he will call one,” he said.
The governor said the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and the Presidential Task Force (PTF) are working with states like Lagos to keep tab of happenings.
“We are preparing ourselves to ensure that as much as possible, we can very quickly flatten the curve’’, Sanwo-Olu added.
