Zamfara Deputy Gov May Be Impeached For ‘Disrespecting’ Police Commissioner

The Zamfara state House of Assembly has reportedly invited the state’s deputy governor, Mhadi Aliyu Gusau, for staging a political rally.

According to a report, the Assembly was worried as the rally was organised after scores of residents were killed by bandits at Maradun Local Government Area of the state.

There are also indications that the deputy governor will also be queried for ‘disrespecting’ the police commissioner in a WhatsApp Chat.

Recently, there have been frictions between the deputy governor and his boss, Governor Bello Matawalle, after the latter dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Zamfara deputy governor who refused to join Matawalle in APC argued that the Supreme Court awarded the electoral victory in the state in 2019 to the PDP and not just its candidates.

There are speculations the Assembly’s invitation of the deputy governor was a move to impeach him for not defecting to the APC along with Matawalle.

The deputy governor has however denied receiving any notification of such invite from the House of Assembly.

Aliyu, who is a son of a former Minister of Defence, Ali Gusau was seen in a viral video addressing some of his supporters while daring anyone to stop him from visiting Zamfara.

In the video, Aliyu said “This is not a political rally, I was just welcomed. They have not seen anything yet. When the time comes for politicking, they will see the true political rally.

“Even though I was not born in Zamfara, my father was born here and nobody can stop me from coming to Zamfara. This is my home.

“Also, we are aware of the killings in Maradun LGA. We sympathise with the families of the deceased ones. May Allah grant comfort to those who lost their lives. I am ready to visit the area for condolence”.
