EndSARS: Aisha Attacks Buhari Hard

Buhari's lopsided appointments

Aisha Yesufu, a popular rights activist and good governance advocate, has lampooned President Muhammadu Buhari over the alleged killing of peaceful and harmless EndSars protesters.

Recall that youth in their thousands had, in October last year, trooped to the streets of major cities in the southern parts of the country and Abuja to protest police brutality.

They also demanded for dissolution of the notorious and fearsome Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, a unit of the Nigeria Police Force.

The protests later morphed into demand for good government and the resignation of President Buhari.

However, what started as a move to correct social anomaly, injustice, and government shortcomings swiftly morphed into a full-blown melee when the demonstration was hijacked in different locations by hoodlums and social miscreants.

The situation degenerated into full-blown violence, leading to the destruction of government assets and the attack of homes of some politicians.

The ensuing crisis led to the deployment of military men to the Lekki Toll Gate, Lagos State, one of epicentres of the protest, where soldiers were said to have killed many protesters.

The Buhari government has insisted that no one died during the attack despite reports from local and international news media and video clips on social media saying otherwise.

The Federal Government had also listed the nationwide demonstration against the notorious Police unit, SARS, as one its reasons for banning Twitter.

Making a presentation to the House of Representatives Joint Investigative Committee on Twitter Suspension, Lai. Mohammed, the Minister of Information and Culture, said, “Twitter raised funds for the EndSARS protesters before it was hijacked.”

To mark the ninth month remembrance of those killed by the security forces in October last year, Aisha Yesufa said the innocent persons killed by the gouvernement will forever trouble Buhari.

And in a tweet on Tuesday, Aisha Yesufu said, “Nine months ago unarmed protesters were shot and killed by the government of Muhammadu Buhari.

“The blood of the innocent youth we failed as a Nation shall haunt him till the end of time. In his moment of rest, he shall hear their wailing and the anguish of their families. #EndSars.”
