4 More Abducted Bethel Baptist Students Escape From Bandits, Remains 83

In less than 72 hours after some abducted students of Bethel Baptist High School, Maraban Damishi, in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State reunited with their parents, there was a good news that another four have escaped from the bandits camp.

This was confirmed by the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Kaduna State, Rev. John Hayab, in Kaduna.

“Yes, another four students escaped from their abductors on Sunday, July 25, and have been reunited with their parents,” Hayab said.

He said that in spite of the latest development, 83 students are still in captivity.

Green White Green (GWG) recalled that bandits in the early hour of July 5, invaded the school and kidnapped an unspecified number of students.

The Police Command in Kaduna, through the Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Jalige, has confirmed the development.

Green White Green (GWG) had earlier reported that one of the students was rescued by the Police Command in Kaduna State on July 12.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Jalige who confirmed the rescue stated, “On July 12, at about 1540hrs, operatives of the command, alongside Civilian JTF on routine rescue patrol around the forest of Tsohon Gaya village, Chikun LGA of Kaduna State, stumbled on three kidnapped victims roaming the bush, extremely exhausted and weak,” he said.

On July 23, GWG reported two of the students to have escaped after the bandits asked them to fetch wood from a neighbouring village.

Jalige said that on Wednesday at about 3.30 am, the Command was informed by a good samaritan that two of the Bethel school students were sighted and believed to have escaped from their captors.

He said a report was lodged with the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Rijana, who got hold of the students, after which investigation confirmed they were victims of the bandits.

The remaining students were confirmed by Joseph Hayab, Kaduna state chairman of the Christian Association of Nigerian (CAN), to have been released, although he was unable to ascertain the total number of the released students.
