Benin Judge Orders Further Investigation Into Igboho’s Entrance Into Country

There is a fresh worry for Sunday Adeyemo, alias Sunday Igboho, as a judge at the Court D’Appal of Cotonou ordered further investigation into how he got into Benin Republic and how long he has been in the country.

According to the Judge, Igboho might have had some criminal association while in Benin.

This was revealed by one of Igboho’s lawyer, Ibrahim Salami, during an interview, he granted BBC Yoruba.

According to Salami, all allegations previously levelled against him has been sufficiently argued during the hearing.

Speaking on the new charges, Salami said, “First, the judge ruled that Sunday Igboho entered into the Benin Republic through an illegal means.

“They also want to investigate how Sunday Igboho conspired with others to enter Benin Republic through wrong means.

“They also want to know how long he has been in Benin republic and his plans in the country. They also raised a charge on whether he wants to come and cause unrest or social disturbance in Benin Republic,” the lawyer said.

Green White Green (GWG) recalls Sunday Igboho was arrested on Monday, July 19, 2021, by the International Criminal Police Organisation at the Cadjèhoun Airport in Cotonou, Republic of Benin on their way to Germany.

The swift intervention of Lt. Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai (rtd.), aborted the ‘discreet journey’ of the Yoruba ethnic campaigner, in the Benin Republic.

It was gathered that Buratai, a past Chief of Army Staff (COAS), was the ‘main’ brain behind Igboho’s arrest.

“The ex-Army Chief knew that Igboho has the only option of first fleeing to any neighbouring African country sharing borders with Nigeria. And as Nigeria’s ambassador to Benin, which shares several borders with Nigeria, he could not be caught napping,” a source stated.

Igboho’s wife, Ropo, has been freed by the court while Igboho is remanded until the investigation is completed.

The court, however, declined immediate extradition of Igboho to Nigeria.
