Finally, Abba Kyari Suspended From Police Duties

Abba Kyari, a Deputy Commissioner of Police and Head, Intelligence Response Team (IRT) has been suspended from police duties on the orders of the Police Service Commission, PSC.

The suspension is in the wake of the indictment served on him by the American courts arising from his alleged dealings with the convicted internet fraudster, Hushpuppi.

 GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that the Inspector General of Police had earlier written the PSC on the development with the intention of applying disciplinary measures while the Nigerian authorities investigate the issues concerning one of Nigeria’s most decorated police officers.

A statement by Ikechukwu Ani, Head Press and Public Relations said, “Abba Kyari’s suspension took effect from Saturday, July 31st 2021 and would subsist pending the outcome of the investigation in respect of his indictment by the Federal Bureau of Investigation of the United States.

“The Commission has also directed the Inspector General of Police to furnish it with information on further development on the matter for necessary further action.

“The Commission’s decision which was conveyed in a letter with reference, PSC/POL/D/153/vol/V/138 to the Inspector General of Police today, Sunday, August 1st, 2021, was signed by Hon. Justice Clara Bata Ogunbiyi, a retired Justice of the Supreme Court and Honourable Commissioner 1 in the Commission for the Commission’s Chairman, Alhaji Musiliu Smith, a retired Inspector General of Police who is currently on leave.”

The developments around Abba Kyari GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports are upsetting perceptions around the country given the degree of respect the super cop has been held in the country.

The issues around Abba Kyari arose after American investigations alleged that Abba Kyari was in cahoots with the convicted internet fraudster, Hushpuppi as they released documents pertaining to dealings between them including transcripts of conversations in one case that saw Hushpuppi request Abba Kyari to deal with a fellow conman who the fraudster cheated him out of a deal.

Abba Kyari has, however, maintained his innocence in the face of the allegations saying that his hands are clean.
