Security Personnel ‘Mistakenly’ Shot Ebubeagu Officer In Ebonyi — Source

There were conflicting accounts of how an officer of the Ebubeagu Security Network was shot during the All Progressives Congress (APC) ward congress at Ugwuachara area in Ebonyi Local Government Area of the state.

A source claimed the officer was shot by another security personnel during an exchange of gunfire with some unknown gunmen who were trying to snatch the ward congress voting materials.

“He was mistakenly shot by a security personnel, as they were pursuing the fleeing gunmen,” the source said.

Another source narrated, “The Ebubeagu personnel, with the assistance of security agencies, engaged the unknown gunmen who later fled the scene, having being overpowered.

“The personnel was hit during the crossfire, while efforts to revive him at the Alex-Ekwueme Federal Teaching Hospital Abakaliki yielded no result”.

Meanwhile, the Police Command in Ebonyi says it has commenced investigations into the shooting.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Aliyu Garba, on Sunday said, “We are still investigating the incident and we will brief the press at the end of the investigation”.

In another news, police personnel in Zamfara rescued two abducted students of the Federal Government College, Birnin Yauri, in Kebbi State.

This was stated at a press conference by Mr Hussaini Rabi’u, the state Commissioner of Police, in Gusau on Sunday.

“On July 31, the police tactical operatives attached to Operation Restore Peace deployed to Dansadau area in Maru Local Government Area of the state for Anti-Banditry and Kidnapping Operations, rescued one Maryam Abdulkarim, 15.

“The girl who hailed from Wushishi LGA of Niger and a 17 year-old-boy, Faruk Buhari, from Wara in Ngaski LGA in Kebbi state were rescued from a nearby bush in Babbar Doka village of Dansadau emirate”.

The police commissioner said, “Our investigation revealed that the rescued victims were among the abducted students of the FGC Birnin Yauri, Kebbi state”.
