Side Effects of Birth Control Pills

Obviously, birth control pills are a type of medication consumed orally to prevent getting pregnant. The pill is usually recommended for sexually active females who are not ready to conceive.

However, as much as these pills come in handy to help you have coitus pleasure without the fear of pregnancy, they do come with side effects. Drug manufacturers usually list the researched side effects of their product.

How Does Birth Control Pills Work?

In case you are wondering how birth control pills work, it is simple. First, you need to know most birth control pills are combination pills.

This means they contain a mixture of female hormones – oestrogens and progesterone.

The manipulation of these hormones by birth control pills manufacturers prevent the release of an egg from the ovary (the place where viable egg(s) is released monthly). Without the egg for a sperm to fertilise, pregnancy is impossible.

The pill according to some experts also thickens the mucus around the cervix partially preventing the sperms from gaining access into the uterus.

It is most likely that sperm will survive this kind of hindrance and thus be unable to fertilise any egg that may have been in the uterus. It can also change the morphology of the uterus surface preventing the attachment of a fertilised egg, hence no means of survival for any fertilised egg.
