PDP NWC Meets, Discards Secondus, Summons NEC
The position of the suspended national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Prince Uche Secondus was on Tuesday increasingly weakening after nine members of the party’s National Working Committee, NWC held a routine meeting of the party’s leadership without him.
The meeting proceeded after the National Vice Chairman of the party, South, The Deputy National Chairman (South) of the party, Yemi Akinwonmi, earlier announced that the NWC meeting would not hold.
In his absence and with a handful of the NWC members absent, the nine members of the NWC present resolved to hold an emergency meeting of the National Executive Committee, NEC on Friday.
That decision could be ominous for Secondus as it could set a date for the National Convention that could draw a curtain to Secondus term as national chairman.
GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that a Port Harcourt High Court had on Monday night granted an injunction restraining Secondus from parading himself as national chairman and as a member of the party.
The Deputy National Chairman (South) of the party, Yemi Akinwonmi, had following the development announced the postponement of the NWC meeting earlier scheduled for Tuesday “until further notice to allow for broader consultations in the overall interest of our party.”
Akinwonmi had also declared that he was taking over the leadership of the PDP following the court declaration against Secondus being apparently the next to him in the NWC.
However, nine members of the NWC forming a majority of the body led by the Deputy National Chairman (North), Senator Suleiman Nazif, on Tuesday afternoon commenced a meeting and announced that an emergency National Executive Committee meeting of the party would hold on Friday.
