Senator Stella Oduah on Thursday defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC with all eyes now set on whether her corruption case which had dragged over the years would now be forgiven.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that Senator Oduah had procrastinated in making an appearance in the latest case against her been dragged to court over the allegation that she misappropriated N5 billion as minister of aviation.

She had failed to make appearance in the last hearings. In the last hearing in early July, the Judge hearing the case had threatened to issue a bench warrant for her arrest if she refuses to make an appearance on the next adjourned date in October.

Her surprising defection to the APC on Thursday shocked many. In fact it was even more shocking than that of her predecessor in the Senate.

Whereas Emodi had issues with the PDP in Anambra State and left on the basis of principle, Oduah’s defection is expected to be weighed against the background of her ongoing corruption case in the courts.

It is even more surprising given the fact that she had been seen as among the power caucus in the PDP in Anambra State.

She, however, shocked when she appeared at the APC national secretariat on Thursday to declare for the ruling party.

Her defection was announced in a statement on Thursday by the National Director, Publicity of the APC, Salisu Dambatta, in Abuja and titled, ‘Senator Stella Oduah dumps PDP, joins APC’.

The statement explained that Oduah was received at a brief ceremony in Abuja by the leadership of the party.

It added that the Senator was admitted into the party by the Chairman of the APC Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, who is also the Governor of Yobe State, Alhaji Mai Mala Buni.

According to the statement, the Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State, the Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, the Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege, and the APC candidate in the November 6 Anambra governorship election 2021 election, Senator Andy Uba were at the occasion.

Oduah, according to the statement, “is the latest of high-profile members of the former ruling party who joined the APC recently.”

Buni, the statement added, congratulated her on joining the APC and assured her of rights as all other members of the party.

Oduah on her part said that she joined the APC to change the narrative in the South East.

She assured the APC leadership that she had “defected to the APC along with her multitude of supporters who have been jubilating in Anambra State.”

Against the background of the claim by the former national chairman of the party, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole eyes would now be watching to see if Oduah will be forgiven ahead of her October 19 trial before the courts on her corruption case.

Her defection remarkably came a day after Chief Olisa Metuh also from Anambra State vowed that he would not be intimidated to leave the PDP.
