Secondus In Deft Move Asks Deputy To Preside At PDP NEC
In a deft move to circumvent legal issues around his position, the embattled National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP Prince Uche Secondus, on Saturday mandated the Deputy National Chairman (South), Yemi Akinwomi, to preside over the National Executive Committee, NEC meeting of the party in his stead.
The meeting holding on Saturday ran into controversy after it emerged that a Calabar High Court had issued a restraining order against Secondus presiding at the meeting. The order followed the Thursday order also obtained by the Secondus camp which returned him to office after he had earlier been restrained by a Rivers State high court.
Secondus in a letter to Akinwomi, wrote: “I hereby request you to preside over the National Executive Committee meeting of the Party, taking place today, 28th August, 2021@ 12 noon, in my absence.”
“Thank you. “
Secondus in the terse letter to his deputy, South, Akinwomi, however, did not give any reason for his absence or for the directive to Akinwomi who is believed be in his camp in the division in the PDP.
GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that following the Kebbi High Court order that Secondus had returned to the national secretariat on Friday and made a show of resuming his office as national chairman while a meeting of the national caucus was ongoing.
He was heralded on that day to the office by protesters who praised him for his achievements as national chairman and flayed his critics.
It has been alleged that Akinwomi, the deputy national chairman, South belongs to the Secondus camp, however, he is not expected to prevail much as chairman of NEC in decisions concerning the embattled chairman of d PDP.
