Drama As Man Gives Fellow Church Member After-Service Beating Over Money

There was drama at the Apostolic Faith Church, Anthony Village branch, Lagos when a man identified as George Osagie Atohenghe gave a fellow member an after church beating.

Osagie according to reports had planned to obtain money from other church members with a false pretence of having a problem.

He conceived the idea to lie that his mother was seriously sick and requested fellow members to raise money for him as they had done for other members in such a similar situation in the past.

Another church member, Edia William, disrupted his plan by exposing him. In retaliation, angry Osagie descended on William and rained several fist blows on him, injuring him in the process. The victim was reportedly rushed to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.

The matter was reported to the Police and Osagie was arrested. After interrogation and having been found culpable, he was charged before the Yaba Magistrates Court for assault.

He pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Barrister J.O. Hodonu, asked the Court to grant him bail and give a date for hearing to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O.A. Salawu, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

He was remanded in Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions while the matter was adjourned till 11th October 2021.
