Anambra: Andy Uba Clears The Air On Plot To Introduce Open Grazing

The Andy Uba Campaign Council has debunked claims that its candidate would open the way for open grazing of cattle in Anambra State should he win the forthcoming governorship election in the state.

The election is scheduled for November 6, 2021 and Senator Uba is the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, a party whose national leadership has been mute on the controversial issue of open grazing.

Debunking the claim in a statement on Tuesday, the Andy Uba Campaign Council said the “height of mischief for any person to say that” as it hit the rival All Progressives Grand Alliance for supposedly inspiring the speculation.

The APGA campaign was not immediately available to give a reaction.

Director-general of the Andy Uba Campaign Council, Paul Chukwuma, who issued the denial in a statement on Tuesday said that Uba had never at any time made a statement promising to establish open grazing in Anambra State if voted in as a governor.

“We are not in doubt as to the origin of fake news. With major opposition like the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) running from pillar to post as its November 6 expiry date approaches.

“It has resorted to all manner of bias tactics to unsettle APC.

Uba was elected senator representing Anambra in 2011 on a PDP ticket, but defected to the APC in 2017.

“We wish to use this medium to expose lies in such report from whatever quarters it may have originated,” Chukwuma stated.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that open grazing is a very sensitive issue in Anambra and many Southern states upon the crisis it has generated as the herders tramp on the farms of locals.

Associating Senator Andy Uba it is alleged with legitimising open grazing it is believed is seen as putting him in conflict with his party which has been mute on the issue.
