How Bandits Lured Residents Of Sokoto Community With Muslim’s Call To Prayer, Killed 6
Just as the Nigerian Army has intensified its onslaught on bandits in Zamfara state, some of the notorious gunmen flee the state to invade neighbouring states like Sokoto to cause further havoc.
In a report by Daily Trust, the bandits selected Tureta local government area of Sokoto for their latest operation.
Tureta shares a border with Zamfara state where the military operation is taking place.
The area is also affected by the current shutdown of telecommunication network in the neighbouring state.
The attackers were said to have raided the area around 2 am on Thursday.
They were said to have deceived the unsuspected members of the community using Muslim’s call for prayer.
“The residents started coming out, thinking it was a time for a dawn prayer and the bandits started shooting at them.
“They killed six, injured many and abducted several others. The entire area is in shock and some of the residents have started relocating to other places,” a source said.
Recall the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has directed all telecommunications providers to shut down services in Zamfara State from September 3.
The letter titled “Re: Shutdown of All Telecom Sites in Zamfara State” was signed by the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NCC, Prof. Umar Danbatta.
“The pervading security situation in Zamfara State has necessitated an immediate shut down of all telecom services in the state from today, September 3, 2021,” the letter read in part.
In line with this requirement, NCC directed the operators “to shut down all sites in Zamfara State and any site(s) in neighbouring states that could provide telecommunications service in Zamfara State. The site shutdown is for two weeks (September 03-17, 2021) in the first instance. Your urgent action in this regard is required,” the letter read.
