List of Katsina LGAs Where Phone Network Shut Down Days After Govt Denial
No lesser than 13 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Katsina have been affected by a shutdown of telecommunication services.
This development is coming few days after the Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) and the Katsina state government denied any plan of shutting down phone network in the state.
A statement by NCC’s Director General (Media), Abdu Labaran Malumfashi, had said the Executive Vice Chaiman/CEO of NCC, Professor Umar D. Danbatta, had spoken to the the Katsina government on the matter where he said the story on the shutdown of phone network is false.
“He added that the purported letter trending on social media was a cloned version of the one sent to Zamfara State.” he said.
In a similar vein, the Director General, Media to Governor Aminu Bello Masari, Abdu Labaran Malumfashi, also asserted the earlier directive to shut down telecom services in the state “did not emanate from the commission”.
Below is the list of the affected Katsina Local Government Areas:
- Sabuwa
- Faskari
- Dandume
- Batsari
- Danmusa
- Kankara
- Jibia
- Safana
- Dutsin-Ma
- Kurfi
- Funtua
- Bakori
- Malumfashi
Meanwhile, there was a similar directive to telecom operators to shut down their services in the neighbouring Zamfara State as from September 3, to enable security agencies carry out required operations in relation to the pervasive security challenges.
However, the reason for shutting down telecoms services in Katsina has not been officially confirmed but there are insinuations it is most likely connected to the insecurity in the area.
